Kampala still remains the host of the forth-coming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM). Both the government and Commonwealth secretariat have said that CHOGM scheduled to take place in November in Kampala the capital of Uganda has not been relocated. Beside two British newspaper quoted a senior government source as well that the summit may be moved to another country possibly South Africa due to concerns about for the insecurity of the Queen and other 53 heads of states. ‘I am beginning to think it may happen, you cant have the Queen visiting if people are shooting each other I the streets,’ the source was quoted as saying in newspapers.
The theme for the summit will be transforming commonwealth societies to achieve political and human development. The commonwealth is a multi-racial grouping of countries formerly linked to Britain that use English as a common language. Museveni gave assurance that by June this year, the 4,000 beds required to accommodate CHOGM guests will be ready. He further added that all the hotels in Uganda that will host guests will be required to have stand by generators to counter any power shortages. Museveni enumerated the benefits of hosting the summit, including giving Uganda an opportunities to inject its ideas into the bigger group of 53 countries, publicizing Uganda as a tourist destination. Uganda is one of the areas in the world coming popular due to the endangered mountain gorillas. These endangered mountain gorillas are one of the attractions boosting Uganda safaris and tours.
