Another Hidden Treasure of Uganda Ssezibwa Falls

On your way drive to Jinja after Mukono town is the Ssezibwa falls. People from Buganda have paid visit to this site for the last decades. People have found it to be another or their 2nd home. The Falls are a Buganda’s Heritage sitelocated on the Jinja high way, about 1 hour drive  from Kampala close to the famous Mbibwa Falls and approximately 32 km east of Kampala city.

The Ssezibwa Falls are on the Ssezibwa River that flows from the wetlands between L. Victoria and L. Kyoga, West of Victoria Nile in Buikwe District, about seven meters high with the sweet hissing sound created by the falling water forming a beautiful scenery. Complemented by the natural vegetation cover and the undulating and steep rocks over which the waters fall, several bird species which present a wonderful opportunity for bird watching, tourist activities such as bird watching, camping, rock climbing, nature
walks,  hiking and canoeing.

The falls have cultural and traditional bearing in the region and to the Buganda in particular due to the myths behind the formation of the Ssezibwa River. It is believed that this river, together with another called Bwanda was born of a Woman on her way to a place called Kawuma Bukunja.
